SYNOPSIS: Far away from the suburbs and beneath the city streets there exists a world dark and deep. The skeletal remains of innocence and justice whither to dust in an atmosphere rank with misery and desperation. Human capital is the “new” oil. Drug cartels are the aristocracy. Sex, blood and diamonds are the currency of this nation; where hope is a cruel joke and Necessary Evil isn’t a choice so much as it is a religion. Alana Symone walked away from that world eight years ago. Her betrayal has a price.
REVIEW: Outrunning the past is easier said than done as depicted in UNFINISHED BUSINESS: NECESSARY EVIL PART TWO by Stephanie Freeman.
Alana Symone is a retired seductress and heister now living a normal life with her husband and children. She was born and raised in a life of crime and for years, she accepted this until meeting Cassiel Garrett. Alana doesn’t expect to fall in love or for Cassiel to be her way out of this dark existence. Cassiel gives Alana his name and a new life and for years they are happy. However, Alana remains watchful and is not surprised when her past finally catches up with in the form of an old rival now turned sworn enemy. Alana is forcibly taken and returned to her former life. She must comply or her family will be killed. Cassiel is devastated by Alana’s capture but refuses to give up. He knows her better than anyone and while she remains missing, Cassiel knows she will make every attempt to come back to him.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS is a gritty, non-stop action romance with stunning characters and a deep and intricate plot. The story begins on a suspenseful tone and maintains this intensity throughout.
Alana Symone’s character is a strong woman who has been through more horrors than any human being should ever be subjected to. Her husband, Cassiel Garrett is not without problems of his own but he comes into Alana’s life and heals her with his love. Alana’s nemesis, Phaedra, is diabolically evil and adds an important element of excitement to the story. Valerie is another complex character who comes to Alana’s aid and also contributes to making this an interesting and nail-biting story.
The story begins in a small town in Maryland but soon Alana is taken and transported out of the country to Europe. There are many instances involving dialogue that are pivotal to understanding the plot.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS is an interesting story with an involved plot. The story is more than a typical contemporary romance as it is heavily laced with action and suspense. Some parts of the story involve violence against women and may be somewhat difficult to read. While Alana’s story began in NECESSARY EVIL: PART ONE, it is not a prerequisite for understanding UNFINISHED BUSINESS. Overall, this is a story you won’t soon forget.
